D2 Technologies and Sequans Communications Collaborate to Showcase 4G VoLTE
Communications Solution
D2’s mCUE® converged 4G mobile software paired with Sequans’ LTE chipsets gives
OEMs a turnkey solution for LTE networks
Chicago, IL (4G World 2011) and Santa Barbara, CA – October 26, 2011 — D2
Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software
platforms, today announced that it has extended its long-standing relationship
with 4G chipmaker Sequans Communications to meet the demand for turnkey LTE
solutions. D2’s mCUE®, a converged 4G mobile communications client for Voice
over LTE (VoLTE) and RCS video calling applications, has been successfully
paired with a Sequans LTE chipset. This paves the way for OEMs, ODMs and
carriers to utilize a more economical and complete 4G communications solution
over LTE in new devices to deliver advanced supplementary services such as
video calling/sharing, instant messaging, whiteboarding, location sharing,
network address book, multiple device support and more.
In addition to this collaboration, the two companies recently marked
significant milestones in the commercialization of LTE. Last month, D2’s mCUE
and its underlying vPort embedded IMS VoIP software platform successfully
completed the VoLTE Interoperability Testing Event in Beijing, China and
Dusseldorf, Germany, organized by the MultiService Forum. Separately, Sequans
recently announced three new LTE baseband chips and a companion RF chip
targeting a wide variety of handsets and mobile broadband devices and
supporting all global FDD and TDD LTE networks. Sequans also recently
disclosed that it is participating in China Mobile’s large scale TD-LTE trial
network in Shenzhen, China.
“Sequans is growing its product line to match the growing adoption rate for LTE
around the globe,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “By working with D2
Technologies to pair our LTE solutions with mCUE, we can help our customers
accelerate time-to-market for a variety of VoLTE optimized devices that offer
rock-solid reliability and a lower implementation cost.”
Sequans’ SQN3010 first-generation LTE chip, which was used by D2 in the VoLTE
development, is designed for a variety of broadband wireless devices, including
portable hotspots, USB dongles and broadband CPE. Sequans’ newly-announced
second-generation LTE chipsets combine outstanding performance and extremely
low power consumption in a very small package, enabling fully-mobile devices
such as smartphones and tablet computers.
“Through interoperability testing and trials, we’ve proven that VoLTE is ready
for deployment in 4G mobile networks,” said Doug Makishima, chief operating
officer for D2. “LTE’s high bandwidth, low latency and advanced QoS
capabilities are ideal for delivering IMS rich IP communication services such
as HD voice and video calls. By partnering with Sequans, one of the world
leaders in developing chipsets for LTE and WiMAX, we are offering OEMs and
carriers one of the first turnkey solutions that enables them to economically
create new devices that take advantage of these benefits.”
