D2 Technologies Debuts VoIP Capability on HTC’s G1 Android Smartphone
D2 Demos mCUE Mobile UC Client with VoIP Capability via the Company’s vPort MP Embedded IP Communications Engine at CTIA Wireless 2009
Las Vegas, NV (CTIA Wireless 2009) and Santa Barbara, CA April 1, 2009 D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, today announced that it is holding private demonstrations of its mCUE converged communications client now enabled with VoIP capabilities on the HTC G1 at CTIA Wireless, being held in Las Vegas, Nevada through April 3rd. D2’s mCUE on the HTC G1, the first commercial smartphone running Android, shows how OEMs can rapidly develop Android-based devices that include premium multi-service VoIP and unified IP communications capabilities. In fact, the combination of D2’s mCUE converged presence-based communications user interface (CUI) and its vPort MP IP communications middleware layer is unique in allowing manufacturers to quickly develop and deliver new mobile devices that integrate all session types including cellular voice call, VoIP, video call, IM, SMS and email messaging.
CTIA Wireless attendees interested in arranging a private demonstration of mCUE and vPort MP on the HTC G1 should contact D2 directly at email@example.com.
D2’s vPort MP adds a Java services layer to Android that unifies access to heterogeneous communications modes and services such as VoIP, cellular calls, Video-over-IP, presence/status, SMS and IM chat. This new layer, an extension of vPort’s native Internet Services Interface (ISI) layer, provides abstracted access to the underlying protocol stacks and softDSP media (voice and video) CODECs. The pairing of mCUE’s innovative, patent-pending communications user interface with the vPort MP VoIP software platform effectively addresses the needs of OEMs and service providers seeking to deliver integrated UC and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) functionality on a wide range of Android-based devices.
“Android is showing significant market traction, and through D2, manufacturers have the ability to quickly and easily equip such emerging devices with rich multi-modal communications,” said Doug Makishima, vice president of marketing and sales at D2 Technologies. “Our approach unifies the underlying heterogeneous services into a cohesive communication layer, simplifying development to not only speed products to market, but also lower costs.”
mCUE’s revolutionary user interface, built on top of a multi-identity, multi-session, multi-protocol engine, enables flexible interoperability with multiple communications services such commercial VoIM services like Google Talk, Yahoo!, MSN, AIM, enterprise IP PBXs and UC systems, and others. It is highly adaptable to any network deployment scenario for consumer-oriented converged communications services offered by IMS, pre-IMS or legacy service provider networks as well as for enterprise UC/FMC services.
Developed by the Open Handset Alliance, the Android platform is a Linux-based software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications.
