THOMSON: New Triple-Play, On-Chip Solution For VDSL2 Broadband Access Gateway
/Enables OEMs and ODMs to easily power new feature-rich VoIP-enabled devices using ARM11™ multi-core processors
PARIS and BURBANK, Calif.– October 8, 2007 — Thomson (Euronext Paris:18453) (NYSE:TMS) today announced the launch of the Thomson 5411/5120 chipset for customer premises equipment at the 2007 Broadband World Forum Europe (Thomson stand #7018). Comprising a digital integrated circuit and an analog integrated circuit, the chipset enables simultaneous VDSL2 and ADSL2+ connectivity while serving triple-play applications including broadband internet, television and telephone.
“The versatility of this chipset will revolutionize DSL broadband applications,” said Marc Crosnier, Worldwide Sales Manager of Thomson’s Silicon Components business. “Telecom operators will now be able to increase user revenue by cost-efficiently upgrading the performance and expanding the bandwidth of their network.”
The Thomson 5411/5120 chipset’s interoperability with most customer premises equipment (CPE) allows telecom operators to deploy VDSL2 platforms, for about the cost of an ADSL2+ platform. The chipset offers complete backward compatibility with ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ networks and includes an embedded dedicated accelerator for efficient multimedia stream routing.
Thomson provides two reference designs, engineered to serve telecom operators, OEMs, IDHs and ODMs: a gateway modem design that provides LAN routing to multiple users, and a triple-play Integrated Access Device (IAD) design providing VoIP and wireless LAN capabilities.
The Thomson 5411/5120 chipset is being demonstrated at the Thomson stand during the 2007 Broadband World Forum Europe in a complete triple-play VDSL2 gateway scenario with Voice over IP software from D2 Technologies.
