D2 Technologies and Ralink Deliver VoIP-enabled 802.11n Solutions for Access Points and Residential Gateways

Ralink’s RT3050, RT3350 and RT3052 processors, combined with D2’s vPort VoIP software, give ODMs/OEMs a complete VoIP-enabled Wi-Fi router-on-a-chip

SANTA BARBARA, CA — December 8, 2009 — D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded software platforms that power IP communications, today announced the availability of D2's vPort Gateway (GW) embedded VoIP software on Ralink Technology’s RT3050, RT3350 and RT3052 high performance 802.11n networking processors. This joint solution gives OEMs and ODMs an economical way to quickly develop today's most competitive advanced wireless access points and residential gateways that deliver triple-play voice/data/wireless functionality.

"We are pleased that D2 Technologies is providing its vPort GW software on the RT3050, RT3350 and RT3052 processors," said Lon Wu, marketing director at Ralink.  "By optimizing D2 Technologies' vPort VoIP solutions for voice, advanced telephony and voice signaling on the RT3050, RT3350 and RT3052, we’re making it easier for OEMs and ODMs to develop best-in-class wired and wireless networking products. We expect many customers to adopt the Ralink RT3050, RT3350 and RT3052 running vPort software as a way to minimize risk and accelerate time-to-market."

Ralink offers high-performance yet cost effective 802.11n single-chip routers that include a 384 MHz MIPS24ke core, 802.11n media access controller (MAC) and baseband, integrated radios, and a 5-port Fast Ethernet switch with PHYs. When integrated with D2's vPort GW software platform, the RT3050, RT3350 and RT3052 provide advanced VoIP functionality including an application layer, a SIP protocol signaling module, advanced voice quality assurance technology such as jitter buffer and packet loss compensation, telephony drivers, and a softDSP “voice engine” with all the necessary DSP algorithms for voice compression, echo cancellation, tone detection/generation, comfort noise generation, caller ID, FAX relay, and more. These rich voice features are achieved with minimal memory and CPU impact, which is of particular importance for low-cost implementations.

"Ralink is an industry titan in the wireless processor market, and D2 has proven experience and support on the Ralink architecture," said Doug Makishima, chief operating officer at D2 Technologies. "The combination of our products results in a highly-scalable and cost-effective solution for OEMs and ODMs that eliminates bandwidth-intensive processing issues and facilitates the production of elegantly simple designs for next generation WLAN applications."
