D2 Technologies’ SoftDSP VoIP Codec Provides Leading-edge Performance on RMI’s Multi-core and Multi-threaded XLS® Processor

RMI’s XLS Processor® Family, combined with D2’s G.729 codec, delivers exceptional performance for VoIP solutions.

SANTA BARBARA and CUPERTINO, CA – February 16, 2009 — D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, and RMI, a leading provider of High Performance Processors for Communications and Media, today announced that the two companies have tested and tuned D2’s G.729 softDSP codec for optimum performance on RMI’s XLS Processor® family, a 64-bit multi-core multi-threaded processor targeted at enterprise and infrastructure applications. This combination allows OEMs to deliver VoIP solutions that offer best-in-class performance at very competitive price points.

D2’s embedded VoIP software on RMI’s XLS® Processor Family provides Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with a high performance general purpose processor that has superior  programmability, scalability and intelligent packet management and  also delivers high quality triple- and quadruple-play voice/video/data/wireless functionality with the lowest possible power consumption available

D2’s softDSP codec running on RMI’s XLS Processor will give OEMs a cost-effective solution for delivering today’s most advanced media and VoIP-enabled voice across multiple platforms,” said Mark Litvack, director of business development, RMI. “By integrating D2 Technologies’ vPort VoIP solution with the  XLS Processor Family, we are able to offer OEMs an optimized reference solution enabling them to reduce development costs and to shorten the time-to-market for the converged communications products most in demand by today’s consumers.”

RMI’s XLS Processor family integrates up to 16 vCPUs™ (fine-grain hardware processing threads using single-clock thread context switching) into four 64-bit CPUs, three high speed on-chip I/O Distributed Interconnects®, large multi-level Dedicated Plus Caches, Autonomous Acceleration Engines for security and compression, multiple memory controllers, IEEE1588 PTP controller, eight Gigabit Ethernet MACs, Serial RapidIO (SRIO), PCI-Express, and GPIO. The XLS Thread Processor™ can be configured to support the 64/72-bit interfaces required for interfacing to low-cost commodity DIMM memories. The new devices provide pin-compatible upgrades for all members of the XLS Processor Family including the 600 Series, 400 Series, and 200 Series.

When integrated with D2’s software, the XLS Processor Family provides advanced VoIP telephony capabilities with minimal memory and CPU impact, of particular importance for low cost implementations.

”Since the softDSP codecs in our vPort solution are optimized to support the MIPS® architecture, they easily combine with RMI’s XLS Processors to produce highly-scalable and cost-effective solutions for solving the bandwidth-intensive processing issues posed by today’s complex media offerings,” said Doug Makishima, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at D2 Technologies.
