D2 vPort MP VoIP software and NXP SoC integration to demo at Spring VON
SANTA BARBARA, CA, March 19, 2007 — D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded software platforms that power IP communications, today announced the availability of its vPort MP embedded VoIP software for NXP's ARM9-based LPC3180 microcontrollers, allowing OEMs to rapidly deploy new VoWLAN WiFi phone handsets. D2, which offers the broadest ecosystem of VoIP software/SoC integrations, will be demonstrating this latest addition in the company's suite at Spring VON (March 19 – 21). The demo also includes NXP’s WLAN module, BGW 211, Bluetooth module, BGB 203 and power management, PCF50685.
“With NXP’s powerful microcontroller and advanced WLAN module, the new integration with D2 allows us to offer customers a seamless solution for delivering VoIP-enabled VoWLAN devices,” said Ton van Kampen, vice president of marketing and business development, mobile and personal business unit, NXP Semiconductors. “We see the high demand for VoIP phones in the industry and we believe this solution will dramatically accelerate time to market for OEMs.”
D2's vPort embedded VoIP software enables manufacturers to rapidly deliver the latest IP communications devices by ensuring networking, signaling and voice processing functions execute as an integrated solution on a single processor. This not only speeds time to market by simplifying the design, it also improves performance and drives down costs for the latest devices, including VoWLAN and dual-mode (VoIP and cellular) phone handsets.
According to Infonetics Research’s Wireless LAN Equipment quarterly worldwide market share and forecast service, worldwide enterprise WLAN equipment revenue hit $1.3B in CY06, up 16% from CY05. Infonetics’ forecasts revenue to rise 27% to $1.7B by CY07 and to hit $2.4B in CY09, as end-user organizations across all verticals adopt enterprise-class wireless LAN equipment and leverage the benefits of mobility for data networking. At the same time, enterprises are rapidly adopting voice over IP (VoIP). In Infonetics’ Enterprise Telephony quarterly worldwide market share and forecast service, the IP PBX market is forecast to grow from 10M lines in CY05 to almost 26 million lines by CY09.
“With the rapid adoption of VoWLAN in the enterprise, WiFi hotspots and the home, OEMs and ODMs are looking to quickly deliver integrated VoIP WiFi and dual-band phones,” noted Doug Makishima, vice president of marketing at D2 Technologies. “The combination of our vPort software and NXP's LPC3180 microcontroller offers an ideal platform for manufacturers to cost-effectively roll out the latest VoWLAN functionality in their devices.”
D2’s vPort MP software platform provides advanced VoIP telephony capabilities such as protocol signaling, soft DSP voice algorithm processing, and advanced voice quality assurance technology such as jitter buffer and packet loss compensation. Furthermore, it is a flexible platform that supports multiple services, such as SIP-based VoIP and VoIM (PC-based IM/P2P voice such as Skype, GoogleTalk, Yahoo! and MSN).
